1920: Frank Bernard Dehn qualifies as a Patent Attorney and sets up a practice in London. Practising alone, he steadily attracts and grows his client base throughout the roaring twenties.
1939: The Frank B Dehn partnership continues to expand with the addition of his son, Stanley. The firm continues to grow steadily from its London office over the next three decades.
1972: The partnership opens a Brighton office.
1977: The European Patent Office (EPO) opens in Munich, shortly after which, in 1979, Frank B Dehn opens premises nearby.
2002: A new office is opened in Oxford to meet demand from the University of Oxford and its linked organisations.
Three Dehns partners become the first UK patent attorneys to register as practising foreign attorneys before the German Chamber of IP Attorneys (Patentanwaltskammer).
2006 - 2008: Dehns trainees win the Gill Prize three years in a row. The Gill Prize is awarded each year to the qualifying patent attorney who receives the highest marks in the final qualifying exams across the whole of the UK.
2009: The firm now consists of over 150 people and is recognised as a top tier firm by Chambers UK, the leading UK legal directory.
2011: After more than 90 years, Frank B Dehn rebrands as “Dehns”, with a new, modern look, but with the same commitment to providing the best service and advice to clients.
2013: “Dehns Germany” is established as a joint venture between Dehns and KGP, an experienced firm of German patent and trade mark attorneys.
2014 - 2015: Dehns opens offices in Manchester and at Discovery Park in Kent, one of Europe’s largest science parks.
2017: Dehns is ranked as a top tier firm by all leading legal and IP directories for both patent and trade mark work.
2019: Dehns opens an office in Bristol.
Dehns patent trainee David Leverett and trade mark trainee Alexandra Nott, both win awards for receiving the highest marks in the country for their respective final qualifying exams.
2020: Dehns celebrates 100 years since the firm was opened, although celebrations are muted due to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
2021: Dehns opens an Oslo office following the acquisition of Leogriff, a leading IP Management Consultancy firm in Norway.
Dehns formally merges with KGP to create the largest Anglo-German firm of patent and trade mark attorneys.
Dehns appoints Paul Harris, a leading IP solicitor, as Head of Litigation to lead the rapidly growing Dehns Dispute Resolution team.
Dehns now has more than 260 people, with offices in 8 locations, including London, Munich and Oslo.
